South West Slopes Key Biodiversity Area Surveys
Eleventh bird survey weekend around Grenfell on March 24 – 26, 2017
Please join us for the next survey weekend around Grenfell in the newly named SW slopes key biodiversity Area (KBA). The name change reflects the move to include other taxa within the old IBA concept though at present birds remain the centrepiece of the programme. New surveyors are always welcome. In small groups, we carry out 20 minute 2 hectare surveys on about 30 sites including many on private properties around Grenfell. The survey takes place on Saturday morning and the rest of the weekend is free for birding. We meet for dinner at the Railway Hotel in Grenfell on Friday evening and usually have a barbecue on a private property on Saturday evening though in March we may have a Bird Forum for local people. Grenfell is five hours’ drive west of Sydney. Accommodation is available in hotels, a motel and bed and breakfast places as well as in the caravan park. It is advisable to book accommodation early.
The September survey in 2016 was cancelled because of the wet weather and floods.
New surveyors are always welcome. There are interesting birds to see including this family of Apostlebirds seen on one of the private properties where we survey. If you would like to join us or would like more information, please contact Elisabeth Karplus on email@example.com or Allan Richards on firstname.lastname@example.org
